Environmental Sustainability (Week One Blog)

This week I learned about sustainability, meaning how the world is able to thrive for billions of years with the resources it has. There are four scientific principles of sustainability that allow the earth to do this. The first is that the earth relies on energy from the sun to keep it warm and allow pants to grow. The second is biodiversity, which is the ability that organisms have to adapt to changing environmental conditions. The third is population control, which allows the earth to limit how many members of any specific species can thrive on it based on the resources said species needs and how much of those resources the earth has to offer. The final principle is nutrient cycling, which is the earth’s ability to recycle essential chemicals that plants need to survive. These principles are what allow the earth and its inhabitants to survive, and by understanding these principles we can better understand how to keep the earth alive and healthy.
